Crib bedding used to be very limited. It was mainly solid pastel colors and even infants considered it dull. Some printed designs were finally brought onto the market, but they were not much more exciting. So the sheets, blankets, and bumper pads for the crib stayed very basic and not very fashionable.
Market research finally made manufacturers understand that new parents desired nurseries that could be decorated as fully as the rest of the house. They wanted their infant to have a room that stood out from the other nurseries on their street. These parents bought designer sheets for their own beds, and they wanted designer baby bedding for their new addition. What was on the market simply did not meet their needs, and so manufacturers reacted.
Major designers were soon creating a unique bedding collection for baby, offering accessories to match. The normal bedding set packages a dust ruffle, crib sheet, coverlet, and bumper pad in a unit that is less expensive than buying each piece separately. Each element coordinates perfectly with the others. No longer must parents have to settle for items that are a near match in color or pattern.
Crib bedding now comes in a wide range of patterns and colors. Some designers also use unusual combinations of fabrics or trim to add interest to the bedding. Many designers who are most well known for clothing have entered the nursery market and brought their flair to bedding for baby. Brightly colored designs that attract the eye of even the youngest infant are plentiful, but softer pastels have not been abandoned.
Most bedding features a particular theme that is echoed in the accessories as well. Basic designs, such as teddy bears, alphabet blocks, fish, and animals have not been forsaken. They have, however, been reinterpreted. Polka dots, stripes, triangles, and checks are also available. More traditional designs that feature butterflies, flowers, cowboys, pirates, and ladybugs are perennial best sellers.
In the past few years, nature has moved into the nursery in the form of jungles, seascapes, and stars. Animated movies have produced characters which have found their way into cribs. Disney baby bedding also sells very well, letting baby doze off amid popular Disney cartoons.
And you do not have to limit nursery decorations to the crib. Lamps, curtains, mobiles, wall hangings, and rugs are available to match the bedding. The nursery no longer has to be the blandest room in the house. Now it can take its place as a fully decorated room.
